Model of the Demographic Transition
New Zealand has a population of 4.4 million as of mid 2010. The birth rate is 14 per 1000 people, and has a death rate of 7 per 1000 people. The average life expectancy for both males and females is 80 years, and the infant mortality rate is 4.9. Finally, the population of New Zealand has a fertility rate of 2.1 children per couple. (All data from Population Reference Bureau 2010)  New Zealand is in stage four of the demographic transition, because their birth and death rates are both very low.
